FAQ
Why positive parenting?
The necessity of positive parenting arose when scientists realized that some conventional parenting practices were no longer effective in the modern lifestyle or were not in line with the optimal development of children. Through a very large body of research in recent years, with an emphasis on emotional health and the functioning of the human brain, a new philosophy was developed around education that took into account the special needs of parents and children in order to ensure the ideal climate within the family.
Why Parent Coaching?
Every parent can benefit from mastering positive parenting practices. And these can be conquered in many different ways. Not necessarily with parent coaching. However, we singled out this method as the easiest and most direct way to help a parent with their work, while still meeting their often very demanding professional and personal obligations, by devoting less than an hour a week (or desired frequency) to discuss in a targeted manner what concerns him or her with a specialized advisor.
What can I expect from parent coaching?
We start with an issue that concerns you, and through the conversation, we give you the tools to tackle it in the best possible way. And of course, we don’t just stay in the theory. What we care about is results. Therefore, in addition to explaining the logic behind each idea that we propose, we monitor in each meeting with you the effectiveness of the practices we discussed and refine them together. With practice, these become easier and easier until you master them completely.
How much does it cost?
The cost of each session is €79.
What are the working hours?
Working hours are Monday through Saturday, 8:00- 21:00.
What is the goal of the free, introductory 20-minute session?
In the free 20-minute information session, we will get to know each other, inform you in detail about parent coaching at ParentingToday and answer any questions you may have about how it works and what you can expect from our collaboration.
Who will my parenting coach be?
You will meet your parenting coach at your first meeting, whether a free 20-min meeting or a Parent Coaching Session. You book the next appointments in collaboration with your coach. In addition, all matters you discuss with your coach are being protected by professional confidentiality, so it is desirable to build a relationship of trust with the same coach.
How can I know if parent coaching works?
The most important criterion is how you feel as a parent. If you feel more optimistic, calmer, more confident about what you are doing, then you can expect rapid changes in your family too: in your child’s willingness to cooperate, in the improvement of your relationship with them, in the way they feel, and how all the other members in your family feel.
How many sessions will I need to resolve my issue?
The time it will take depends on the issue you are dealing with and on your own time investment in using the tools that we work on together. In general, a typical parenting issue may take 8-12 meetings. A minimum of 6 sessions is desirable to guarantee that you see results.
Is there a mimimum number of sessions that I need to take?
The minimum number of meetings we recommend is 6 meetings, and this is because the mastery of the practices you will discuss with your coach takes practice and refinement. In addition, every child is different and responds differently to each change. However, once you are satisfied with the results of our collaboration, you can stop and start again at any time. Please inform us when you are ready to stop working with us, as we have an important wrap-up procedure that will ensure that your learning will be solidified and readily available to you from then on.
Why is one session not enough?
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that parent coaching will be effective with just one meeting. And here’s why: We need to deeply understand the issue you’re dealing with with your child and the factors affecting it, as well as what would be the desired outcome for you. Then we will make some hypotheses about what might be going on, recommend some coping strategies that fit your own family’s values and desires, and from one meeting to the next, we will assess where we are, how your child is responding, if the strategies are working, and if changes are needed in your approach.
What if I continue parent coaching for a longer period of time?
Although they may be wary at first, many parents begin counseling about an issue they are deeply concerned about and see such an improvement in their family that they choose to continue counseling as a permanent supportive tool in their parenting role. The issues with our children are many, they affect all members of the family, and as children grow, the challenges change. If you try counseling and find that it helps you better deal with issues that arise in your family, it is up to you to decide how often and for how long you want to continue.
Finally, we are so optimistic about the effectiveness of the practices we recommend, that after the first 6 meetings, if for any reason you are not satisfied with our counseling, we will refund the entire amount you spent.
Is there any money back guarantee?
We take full responsibility for the quality of our services by refunding all your money in case the parent coaching does not help you after the first 6 meetings. A prerequisite is that you have held all 6 meetings with the same parent coach.
Are the meetings with one or both parents/care-givers?
Coaching sessions are for anyone who has a primary role in a child’s rearing. Therefore, the ideal is to involve everyone who interacts with the child on a daily basis.
Can you also see my child?
In the context of parent coaching, we do not speak with the child, but we can refer you to a professional from our network of partners who has the appropriate expertise according to the issue you are facing. In most cases, as a parent, you can guide your child solely through parent coaching around any issue you are facing, and see results in a very short period of time, without the need for an intervention by another professional.
How do I get started?
By clicking on one of the buttons on our website, a form will appear to fill in your information as well as some basic questions about the issue that concerns you and your family. You choose the meeting plan you want and the day and time that suit you for our first meeting. If you proceed with the payment, you will receive an email with the link to join the meeting, an optional questionnaire to fill out before the first meeting that will help us learn a few things about your family without spending time on them in the meeting itself, and the Parent Counseling Consent Form with some important information about our counseling relationship. You can book the first meeting even on the same day, if there is availability. The next meetings in your plan will be booked with your coach during the first meeting.
When can I start?
You can start parent coaching even on the same day, subject to availability.
When do the meetings take place?
You choose the day and time of our first meeting, and subsequent meetings are scheduled during the first meeting in collaboration with your coach, depending on the issue you are dealing with and, of course, your own availability. The coaching plans have a weekly frequency, so on the one hand, you have time to try our proposals; on the other hand, not too much time goes by without having contact with your coach, but you can configure the frequency of the meetings according to your needs.
For what ages can I do parent coaching?
You can start parent coaching before you even welcome your baby into the family to prepare for this major change in your life, and then for children ages 0 to 18.
Is parent coaching done per child or for the whole family?
Although you may need more help with one of your children, we treat the family as a whole, because one family member affects the other. The object of our discussion in this case will be the child himself/herself, but also the relationships with his/her siblings, the relationship with each parent, and the general climate in the family.
My child is already a teenager, can parenting coaching help me?
Of course. If you’re worried that it’s too late to start adopting positive parenting practices, the truth is that, whenever you start using them, you’ll see that they can work. However, with an older child who may be used to a different parenting approach, you will need to make a greater effort and show more persistence, as it will take longer to see changes. However, even the most difficult parent-child relationships can be favored by adopting positive parenting at every stage of childhood. In some cases, it may help to combine parent coaching with the adolescent’s counseling with a psychologist. Your coach will be able to refer you to the appropriate partner.
What if the issue I am facing concerns a specialized professional?
If for any reason, through the consultation we will do together, we realize that the issue you are facing concerns a specialized professional, we are obliged to refer you to him/her. You can continue parenting coaching as a supportive tool for your family, while your child receives the necessary support for their every need from the right specialist. In this case, we will directly recommend someone from our partner network, or we will encourage you to look for him/her yourself.
